History of plant

Before the 16th century Malinovshina used to be part of the properties in Lebedevo surrounding belonging to the Princes of Golshan and after became a procession of the Radzivill Princes. In 1702 the manor was purchased by Clemence Sventorzecki and since that moment continued to be owned by the family undergoing significant development during the period of two centuries. Later the manor was inherited by Tadeush, then by Shembelia Jacob and finally by Stanislav Sventozhetsky (1792-1838).

The village of Lebedevo was mentioned for the first time in the letter of Grand duke Yagaila (Vladislav), the King of Rzecz Pospolita Polska on April 25th, 1387. The settlement originated on the old road from Molodechno to Krevo merging with the road to Oshmyany and Vinius. Since its earliest days Lebedevo standing on a commercial road was known for its trading traditions and its inhabitants run several shops and taverns.

According to the late 18th century’s population census there were 43 taverns in a settlement of 140 houses. The taverns served vodka and beer. Every year from June, 29th till July, 9th a special fair “kirmash” brought more live to the place. Up to 2 thousand merchants from Vilnius, Smorgon, Krev, Minsk, Molodechno and Gorodok visited the fair to make proper trading deals. Lebedevo settlement was a key node for many surroundings like Malinovshina, Tarashkovo, Ivanovshina, Usha, etc. Malinovshina will be described herein in more details.

In 1826 Stanislav Sventozhetsky acquired Vysokovschina and Uscha manors thus increasing the land property to over 8 000 acres. During the same time a mansion in Malinovschina was built up and remained functional till 1939. A landscape park of 10 hectares with a system of ponds and an originally patrimonial tomb were erected in the manor by the Italian architect who remained living there after 1812 war.

The Sventozhetsky family mansion was set up in the middle of park. It was the one-storeyed stone house boarded outside what made it to seem wooden. The high granite basement supported massive brick walls with large windows. The central frontward was decorated with a small colonnade with high double-folding oak doors. White marble stairs and double-sided a roof didn’t carry any special decorations. The terrace at the house was sided with a balustrade.

A corridor type lay-out along the long side of a frontward faced the halls towards the entrance and was comprised of small and big saloons, a library, a study, a dining room and a line of living rooms. The big saloon housed a 4 meter sofa, a round big table in modern style and hunting trophies on walls. The study also housed another collection of the weaponry.

Small saloon was decorated with small marble tables with the Chinese vases, a collection of paintings of known artists and gold-framed mirrors. The house was also nicely featured with the picturesque parquet-floor combined of a black oak and white ash. The interior was supplemented by original fireplace and wooden panels.

The manor was at its highest development during Michael Sventozhetsky (1837-1891). He studied agronomics and distillation in Germany and established the first factories on yeast and starch production. Since 1871 a steam distillery started its operation in the manor. In 1880 it was transformed into a factory producing spirit and starch. The factory began to produce Pineapple tincture.

In the end of 19th century the products of Malinovshina distillery were well known across all Russian Empire, Poland, Austria, Italy. The products were awarded a silver medal at the St.-Petersburg exhibition in 1889 and a special prize at the Moscow exhibition in 1892. According to the historical studies Malinovshina distillery is the oldest one in all Belarus.

Michael Sventozhetsky tremendously contributed to economic and spiritual development of a manor. Before World War I he also set up fish industry on the area of the recently purchased Gryzov manor. In 1911 the menagerie by the area of 90 hectares was also set up. World War I brought severe damages to the Sventozhetsky manor as well as to all Western Belarus.

After Soviet-Polish war and the Riga Pact the Western Belarus territory has departed to Poland. The area was in a deep industrial crisis. Recession in distillation industry was most obvious. Former developing factories have turned into small workshops employing 2-3 workers. In 1929 there were totally about 57 such small distilleries. The production output dropped down more than three times. The Sventozhetskys tried to revitalize their facilities but their attempts were unsuccessful.

The picture shows Malinovshina manor before 1939. World War II entirely destroyed the beauty of the manor. After the Soviets entered the land the Sventozhetskys left for Poland. The new epoch - an epoch of socialism began. Everything from the masters and from the peasants became incorporated into one state farm. This time may be considered as the rebirth for Malinovshina distillery.
